Body Tag for 1968 Firebird

 

Time Built Code:
Located above the "ST" letters. Indicates the week of the month the car was made and which week the car was assembled. (
09D = September, 4thweek)
Model Year:
Located to the right of the "ST" letters. Indicates the model year.
Division Series:
Located to the right of the Model Year digits. Indicates the division, model, series, and body style. This number matches the first five digits of the V.I.N. on all 1967-71 models. (22367 = Pontiac (2), Firebird (23), Convertible (67))
Assembly Plant Code:
Located to the right of the Division Series digits. Indicates which plant the car was manufactured (LOS = Van Nuys, California;
LOR = Lordstown, Ohio).
Consecutive Build Number:
Located to the right of the Assembly Plant Code. It is the consecutive body build number and indicates the sequence the car came off the assembly line. This number will not match the actual sequential VIN number.
Paint Code:
Located below the Assembly Plant Code. The 2 letter code indicates the body color, or which upper and lower colors were used on a 2-tone paint option, or what color an optional stripe, convertible top, or vinyl top was ordered. (
LL = Alevtian Blue top & Bottom)
Trim Code:
Located to the left of the Paint Code. The 3 digit code indicates the color the interior is and what style and material the seat was made from. (255 =
Dark Teal Custom Option Vinyl)

 

 

Body Tag for a 1977 Firebird

 

The body tag on your car contains vital information for the restorer or collector. The model, body style, paint color, interior color and date of manufacture are all decoded on this metal tag. The tag on 1970 - 81 cars is located on the drivers side horizontal surface of the cowl, below the windshield under the rear section of the hood. All models used a tag of this sort, the style differs slightly from year to year but the information is found in the same locations.


Time build Code:
Above the "ST" letters is found the time built code. This tells you when the car was manufactured. Consisting of 2 numbers and 1 letter, it tells you which month the car was built in (example 01 = January, 02 = February) and which week the car was assembled (example A = Week 1, B = Week 2). Most parts would have been date coded 4 - 8 weeks before the build date on the tag.

Model Year:
To the right of the "ST" letters is the model year of the car (example 77 = 1977).

Division Series:
The digits to the right of this decode the division, model, series and body style as detailed in the V.I.N. In cases where the numbers do not match each other, always use the V.I.N number.

Assembly Plant Code:
To the right of these numbers is the assembly plant code. This three letter code should corrispnod to the information given on the V.I.N tag.

Consecutive Build Number:
To the right of the assembly plant code is the consecutive build number. This tells in sequence when the car came off the assembly line, and will not match the V.I.N number.

Paint Code:
Below this information is the paint code. This two letter codel tells what color the body was painted, or which clors were used upper and low on a two-tone paint option.

Trim Code:
Left of these is the trim code. This 3 digit code shows what the color of the interior was and what style and material the seat was made from at the time of manufacture.
